Local metal detectorist Paul Edwards has been talking to Walton Parish Council about some of his discoveries from the fields around Walton. His most exciting find is a Roman coin which for the first time confirms the presence of Roman activity in the area of our Parish. We know that Wilderspool was an important fort and trading place on the banks of the Mersey but evidence of activity in Walton has been illusive. Paul thinks that the coin could confirm the existence of a long lost route way through the parish. Paul's other finds include coins of various ages, lead bullets, rings, badges and buckles. Some of his finds are pictured here. Each item has a story to tell of activities in a bygone age. Paul does not reveal the exact location of his finds out of respect for landowners and to protect potential historical sites.
